Scrappy QB energizing Sandwich’s gritty playoff run: Kendall County football notebook

Cash White doesn’t look like the prototypical quarterback at first glance. The Sandwich senior checks in at 5-foot-9, 195 pounds, making him one of the smallest players on the Indians’ starting offense. He doesn’t necessarily play like the typical quarterback, either. White isn’t afraid of contact. In fact, he embraces it. “It’s definitely surprising,” running back Wyatt Gregory said. “Usually quarterbacks like to slide, and they don’t like to get hit. But Cash is always looking for contact.”Of course, White’s physicality shouldn’t come as a complete surprise. He’s also one of Sandwich’s starting linebackers, where delivering and absorbing contact comes with the territory. But that hard-nosed mentality is still a bit different than what you’d expect out of a quarterback.White put that toughness on full display Saturday, bullying his way through defenders to help the Indians pull off a 29-20 upset on the road against fourth-seeded Durand-Pecatonica in a Class 3A first-round playoff game.H
