Mendota woman fell asleep behind the wheel, hospitalized after rollover crash — Springfield Health news

A Mendota woman was hospitalized after suffering injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash Wednesday morning that authorities believe happened when she fell asleep while driving, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. The woman, 43, suffered a suspected head injury and was taken to OSF Saint Paul Medical Center in Mendota by Paw Paw first responders, according to a news release from the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office. While driving a 2012 Ford Explorer east on Chicago Road Wednesday morning, the Mendota woman allegedly fell asleep, struck two mailboxes before leaving the roadway off the right shoulder, and rolled over in a ditch. DeKalb County deputies responded to the 4000 block of Chicago Road after a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash at 7:27 a.m. Wednesday morning. The woman did not receive a citation, but her car needed to be towed from the scene because of the damage sustained in the crash.
